Red Fox Hotel, which was poised to host the dancehall DJ supremos, have attributed the last minute change to legal modalities and a need to follow due process whilst also saying the rest of the programme and line-up for the day would remain unchanged.
“The team was supposed to fly tomorrow (today) for their New Year concert slot but we realised early yesterday morning that not the entire team had been cleared for the performance and felt it prudent to cancel their entire slot and reschedule it,” said organiser Robert Zhuwao.
“While it is regrettable that the reggae dancehall outfit could not be part of the event, we felt it would be a travesty to have them attend at the risk of being on the bad side of authorities who have always worked well with Red Fox Hotel in all our concerts in the past even though others had been cleared,” he added.
But ‘Elder Zee’, as he is fondly known, said the absence of Black Supremacy was not going to dampen the event as the rest of the blazing team would perform on the New Year’s welcome line-up as previously announced.
“We have not cancelled New Year and a New Year will come with or without Black Supremacy so the show will go on. After all it was only a slot. We know Zimbabweans have always been party animals and lovers of their ‘kumaRasta’ tradition and the pre-announced line-up will give a massive performance regardless of the small setback,” he said.
The show will thus proceed with Redfox international, Legendary Sound, Immortal Movement, New Generation, Chronixx Africa sound plus a host of surprise guests artistes.
“After all, let us see it as a week-long party opening with local acts and being wrapped up by Black Supremacy next Saturday 07 January 2017 marking Zimbabwe’s first international show of 2017,” he said.
Their partners in the event have also been supportive of Red Fox for taking a ‘painful yet responsible’ decision to postpone the Black Supremacy performance in the interest of upholding the law.
“The show now commences at 9pm until the break of dawn, with all the plans in place for a great event,” added Elder Zee.
Redfox is the Mecca of reggae and dancehall music and has become the hub of music bashments that usher in the New Year through the ‘kumaRasta’ juggernaut.
